It seems like every year when Father’s Day comes around, I’m always scrambling to find a good gift for my husband.
- I seem to usually end up getting him a tie or a t-shirt or something like that.
A couple of times I bought him tickets to a concert and once I tried to get him some tools. But I have no idea what kinds of tools he needs or wants and so I’ve given up on that. This year, I’ve decided to go completely rogue and get him something that we’ve talked about doing for years. See, when we moved into our house we inherited this ancient thermostat system for controlling our furnace and air conditioning. I think this thermostat unit probably was built sometime around the stone age, or at least the turn of the century! And while the thermostat unit has been working since we moved in, it hasn’t exactly done us any favors with keeping our heating and cooling bills down. I read about something called a smart thermostat system that can actually learn your family’s schedule. Once it learns the times and days that your family is in the house or out of it, the thermostat can adjust automatically. With a smart thermostat, you can actually save a whole lot of money on your heating and cooling bills without doing anything at all! You just set the thermostat, let it learn the proper programming, and reap the energy savings benefits. I think my husband will love getting a smart thermostat for Father’s Day this year.
