Many of my close friends think I am completely nuts.
I have finally come to the close of a long and satisfying career.
But, I have chosen the midwest as the place I want to spend my retirement. Everyone figured I would head to the sun. It’s what most of my colleagues and peers have done. Yet, I was blessed to have lived in the midwest for several years during a portion of my career. There was just something about the region I quickly fell in love with. The people are laid back and the sense of community is something I have looked for all my life. So, when I had the opportunity to purchase a great tract of land, I snapped it up. As my career was winding down I was able to build my dream home. The best part of the house is the heating and cooling system I invested in. My home is heated and cooled using a geothermal HVAC system. This type of HVAC system works by utilizing the earth’s near constant temperature to extract both heating and cooling energy. A loop which is buried beneath my home pulls energy to transfer to the heating and cooling system. During the winter, the heat energy is transferred to water which runs through coils under the floors. This radiant heat is just the best. It is so cozy and the best part is I can walk around barefoot year round. When the temps drop way down, there is a supplemental furnace which helps to heat the water for the heat I use. The geothermal unit is certainly an investment. However, the utility savings will be significant. And I will be enjoying those savings for 30 years or more. Yep, the midwest is my final stop.
