My dad builds off the grid houses out of straw bales, and I recently told him that I wanted one.
He told me that he would help me build one, but explained that it would be different from my usual luxuries.
He started off by explaining how one of the big concerns he had was the HVAC system. He knows that I like my AC unit to be turned up to the max, which he says is not always possible with an off the grid house. He said I would be using a portable AC unit, instead of the nice ductless AC unit that I am used to. I wouldn’t be able to add my heated flooring, and there would be no smart thermostat. I don’t mean to sound like an HVAC snob, but I do love my modern technology. I decided against the off the grid home, and instead started to build a tiny home. My plan is to make a tiny home that is extremely energy efficient, and I will be following the energy saving tips from my dad. He recommended that since I love my air conditioner so much, I should invest in solar power to power it. He also told me that he has a friend in HVAC that would be willing to give me the newest technology at a much cheaper rate than usual. I can’t wait for my new house to be done, and I am especially excited for my new AC unit. I figure it should be pretty easy to get my home ice cold, considering how tiny it will be. My air conditioner won’t have to work too hard to cool down the house.
