I don’t like to build things up in my mind too much.
Invariably that ends up in disappointment. So I do my best to look forward to stuff without too many specific expectations. And that’s what I did when I finally got to do have dinner inside the air conditioning at the beginning of this past summer. Being able to dine out inside the HVAC comfort of a restaurant never seemed like something that I would have to live without. And certainly, I didn’t think that I wouldn’t be able to dine out for over a year. Well obviously, that’s how it went down for me during the pandemic. I stayed real close to the air conditioning of home in order to steer clear of the Covid virus. I’m too old to fight that thing and so I simply had to cook inside the air conditioning of my home or get takeout. So once I was vaccinated, I was so excited to be able to sit down in a restaurant and dine. Again, I made sure that I didn’t over do it when it came to building this up in my head. Afterall, it was just a meal and I’d had meals before. The food and the service were almost worth waiting a year for. But the basic expectation of good heating and cooling wasn’t there. And that was a bit stunning. I even asked the server if the HVAC equipment was on the fritz. She was careful with her reply but indicated that this was just par for the course. That was sort of shocking to me. Quality heating and air is pretty basic and essential when it comes to any business much less a restaurant.
