Home HVAC systems are not cheap to replace

My daughter Cassie called me in a panic because her Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit broke down in her condo and the technician said it needed to be replaced.

My husband and I bought an older house for my daughter a few years ago.

After she graduated from university and got her first job, it was perfect. She managed to pay her mortgage on her own. Over the years, she had some minor maintenance issues, but nothing major! One of the most expensive things to replace in your home is a broken Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning unit. A new Heating, Ventilation & A/C system normally costs between $5,000 and $10,000. It is determined by the size of the unit, the square footage of the house, and the efficiency rating of the HVAC system. Cassie’s house isn’t that big. It’s a 1,200 square foot two bedroom. Therefore, the cost of her new HVAC unit should be on the lower end of the cost spectrum. She lives alone in her home, and I’m wondering if she would consider getting a window unit until we figure out how to pay for a new heating and cooling system. I’m sure her dad will offer to help with the cost, but Cassie will insist on paying him back. As a temporary solution, I will ask her to consider installing a window air conditioner in her home and possibly installing ceiling fans in adjacent rooms. Cassie will have some time to decide the best option for getting the new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning unit.
