Every year my boss hosts a company retreat, just for the top level sales guys and administrators. The company has over 500 employees now, and is still growing every single month, so he can’t afford to take everyone. Instead, the top 30 or 40 employees in the company food chain are flown somewhere faraway for a few days of meetings, conferences, and of course recreation. Last year we went to a ski lodge up in the Rocky Mountains, and that was an experience I will always hold dear. This year we went south, WAY down south, to one of the islands off the coast, and booked a resort. My suite was amazing, with maybe the most powerful HVAC system I ever had the pleasure to stand in front of. When I first checked in I stood in front of the air vents, cranked it down to maximum cooling, and didn’t move until I got so cold I was shivering. This is something I always do at any hotel I stay in, because if you can’t overuse the HVAC system in a rented room, why even stay there? Anyway, the retreat itself was very informative, and I did a lot of good networking, but the air quality down there is oppressively humid. I spent a great deal of my free time in my room, enjoying the wicked coldness of the air conditioner. I always went to the beach a lot, and there was a great tiki bar right on the water that ran a little A/C unit behind the bar.
