My uncle George just bought an old home for dirt cheap.
My aunt Marie—died last year from cancer.
Uncle George was so tore-up over losing his wife that he instantly sold their place in upstate NY & went on a year-long road trip. I didn’t hear from uncle for months, & several in the whole family feared the worst. Thankfully, Uncle George went and came back to us at last. And with this brand new and old house he just had bought, it seems that he’s trying to transfer forward with his life again thankfully. As brilliant as he is with his hands and repairing things though, the home is in total shambles. Aside from the broken windows, broken sub-flooring, & lack of insulation in every square inch of the building—the tricky part for us is figuring out how to heat & cool this monstrous beast of an old home. Even though a family lived here as recently as 15 years ago, there is no central a/c unit or oil furnace inside. The previous owners had a window a/c unit on the base floor & another in the master dining room on the hour floor. My lovely Uncle George is finally working on obtaining estimates for a big central heating & cooling system unit complete with ventilation in every room from the ground level to the top. Then, he plans to gain some kind of comparison quotes for ductless options—most likely mini-splits throughout the weird zones in the house. My assumption is that the central Heating & Air Conditioning system unit is genuinely his best bet, but we’ll have to wait & see what kind of quotes he ends up getting back from the assorted heating and air conditioning dealers.
