I made the decision to purchase a second window-mounted HVAC system for my living room.
When I originally moved several states away from my hometown, in order to get better work opportunities down south, it was the beginning of fall. Summer had recently ended and while some of the heat remained, most days felt warm, in a nice way. I had an air conditioner in my bedroom I’d turn on if it got a little too warm for my tastes, since it’s easier for me to sleep when kept cool, and there wasn’t really any need to run air conditioning in the rest of my house. That was until almost a year passed and I was faced with experiencing my first southern summer. While I had never been in temperatures over the 70s before in my life, my new state saw temperatures in the 90s, up to the low 100s, on a daily basis. It was sweltering! My bedroom’s air conditioner was no longer enough to keep me comfortable. I considered moving the AC unit out of my bedroom and installing it in my living room, where it could have a larger impact on the temperature control in the rest of my apartment, but then I would not have it to keep me cool and help me sleep at night. I made the decision to purchase a second window-mounted HVAC system for my living room. During the day I could use my living room’s new AC system to keep my house nice and cool, while I was up and moving room-to-room. And then, at nighttime, when I’m stationary in my bedroom, I could use my room’s AC to keep my room cool without wasting power cooling rooms I wasn’t using. While purchasing the new AC wasn’t cheap, I feel I ultimately made the right decision to cost effectively keep my home cool and comfortable during the hot summer months.
