It is quite natural that grandchildren should appreciate their Grandparents even more than their birth parents, and unfortunately, I grew up a highly dysfunctional family where affection was almost non existent; My Grandparents were even more demanding than my parents, but grandMa was the best of the lot plus when he died, it was absolutely a loss; So when my Grandmother asked – no demanded that I spend a space of the holidays with her, it was the last thing I wanted to do. In the end, my mother guilted myself and others into going.
Grandmother lived on a farm in the high country, where creature comforts were not regarded as something of much importance. There was no form of temperature control; no Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system to cool the house in summer time or supply heat in winter. I knew it would be snowing in those mountains at this time of year, so I decided to take lots of sweaters, two coats plus a tiny space heating system as well. Imagine my surprise when I entered Grandmother’s house plus actually felt warm! Clean, warm, comforting air surrounded myself and others prefer a big hug.
Grandmother giggled (something not normal for her) plus explained that my father had had radiant heating installed in his house. I took off my shoes plus my toes felt the best they ever had. The hot air, generated from hot water in pipes below the floor, was rising, as hot air does, plus finally working its magic to transform a freezing ancient house into a warm, comfortable locale, but radiant heating also seemed to have warmed my Grandmother’s heart!
The people I was with and I had the best time ever.
