My husband and I experienced awful problems with the furnace last winter.
We had to call the heating company on two separate occasions, and that was after my husband tried to make the repair on his own.
On one of those occasions, my husband found the problem and ordered the part for the furnace online. When the piece arrived, I told my husband that it didn’t look like it would fit. The piece looked like it was an inch too big. Sure enough, it didn’t fit. My husband ordered the right part online, but they shipped him the wrong item. My husband didn’t want to wait three more days to fix the heating problem, so we decided to call the heating company. They came out and replaced that piece and told my husband that he was right about the issue. That made my husband believe he can do anything and the next time the furnace stopped working, he tried to fix it on his own. We went without heat for three days, but my husband finally fixed the issue. Of course, he made six different trips to the hardware store during those three days. The third time we had trouble with the furnace, I begged and pleaded for my husband to finally call a professional. He protested for hours, but then he agreed. The professional heating contractor told both of us that it’s time to buy a new furnace. We can keep fixing all of the problems with this one or we can buy something that is energy efficient and up-to-date.
