About two years ago, I was fortunate enough to begin working from home. I no longer needed to set an alarm, dress in business casual and make the commute to the office five days a week. I like to work in my pajamas, set my own hours, and can listen to music while I work. There are no coworkers and I am far more productive this way. When I first started working from my apartment, I just set up a desk and computer in a spare bedroom. I immediately had a problem with temperature control. The particular room I’d chosen tended to be overly hot during the summer months and overly cold during the winter. Adjusting the thermostat to accommodate that single room was wasting a lot of money. I was paying to air condition and heat the rest of the house too, putting unnecessary strain on the HVAC system, and continually messing with the thermostat. I finally got a hold of a local HVAC contractor for some tips. The technician looked over my heating and cooling equipment and told me about zone control and smart thermostats. With the installation of valves into the duct system, I’m able to keep heating and cooling contained to specific rooms. I can make adjustments to the temperature of my workspace without doing it to the rest of the house. The smart thermostat allows me to raise or lower temperature, and even set humidity levels, without leaving my desk. I have access to the unit through an app on my phone. I have now created a perfectly comfortable and more productive workspace thanks to zone controlled HVAC.
