It certainly did catch me by surprise.
I figured I might be laid off temporarily from our job when Covid finally first showed up.
They immediately closed our office with the awesome zone controlled heating, ventilation, and A/C. And then a bunch of us were laid off immediately. But the way the company was talking about it, they would bring us right back. Well, only about 10 percent of those laid off ever got to do their jobs remotely from an apartment in their own A/C. As for me, I was jettisoned similar to someone’s leftover spaghetti. And after 10 years with that company. Immediately, I had to scramble, I mean I have a mortgage and a life to pay for of course. Thankfully, I don’t have children I have to provide for. Still, it was spine-chilling at the time. But I immediately got to doing my job in the heating, ventilation, and A/C security of our house in order to find whatever sort of good paying gig I could find online. And that has ended up with me having a completely different work just a year later. I’m also doing lots of editing and copywriting online and I love it. With some of the stimulus money and a bit of our savings, I had the heating, ventilation, and A/C company install a ductless heat pump. I turned our guest room into a separate apartment office and it’s legit. The ductless heat pump certainly does the job separate from actually overheating or over cooling the rest of the house. It’s great I guess. Sometimes a door does have to actually close in your face for the rest of your life to abruptly open up to you.
