Being home was a great relief.
I had spent many months volunteering abroad and saw some shocking scenes.
I just wanted to be close to my mum and family for some time. Mom was happy to see me home and gave me space to settle in. I knew we’d eventually have to talk about my next move. One morning, I woke up and found that she had left for work. I went to the kitchen to make breakfast and heard a clicking noise from the AC. The distinct HVAC noise had me worried, and I wondered what to do. I got my phone, called mom, and explained the AC issue. She advised me to phone the HVAC company immediately for assistance. It was winter, and we needed the heating unit. I turned off the noisy AC and got contacts for the HVAC business in town. They sent an AC technician to our house for assistance an hour later. It was snowing when he got to the house, and I let him in. He turned on the central cooling and heating unit to listen to the HVAC noise before shutting it off. The issue was either the air conditioner thermostat or a problem with the wiring. It was both. The air conditioning thermostat was malfunctioning and reading at a different temperature. That indicated there was a problem with its settings that the AC mechanic had to solve. Another area of concern was the outdoor HVAC wiring. It seemed a rat had created a nest and nibbled on some of the electrical wires. The air conditioner specialist first tackled the issue of the faulty thermostat before heading outside. It was snowing, so I had to get an umbrella to cover him and me as he worked on the outdoor air conditioning system. He got rid of the rat’s nest and mended all the broken wires. The heating unit was working effectively once more and didn’t make the clicking noise again.
