When I go hiking with our wifey, we often choose mountain trails that take about 5 hours to climb, rest at the top of & come back down to the base of the mountain; One year, our wifey & I chose this trail that was on a mountain outside of our proper selection, as it was in a strange state. We heard it was a six hour round-trip, but we were easily mistaken! Due to inclement weather, we were stranded on the trail for nearly several hours. It was chilly cold, & we didn’t pack enough warm clothes to change out of as it rained. We would’ve killed to find a safe haven from the chilly rain, & anywhere with a gas furnace, radiator, or even a fireplace to provide some warmth! With nowhere to go, we used our compass & trekked back down to the base to search for our car. On our way back down, we ran into a most surprising sight – a casual little diner, right there on the side of the trail! We were convinced we were seeing a mirage, but it was the real deal. We walked in, & a waitress was near the front to seat us & provide us menus, thankfully we were sited right under a ventilation point in the ductwork of the diner’s heating & a/c, so we had warm, dry air blowing right down to us & providing us with comforting heat. The air quality in this diner was sublime after being caught in the chilly rain for hours! It wasn’t until we walked out of the diner when the rain subsided, that we realized we simply walked off the main trail & onto a back trail, no wonder we got lost & couldn’t find our way back to the parking lot! Either way, we were thankful to have found that diner & loved their excellent heating plan to warm up & dry out.
