I work for a local HVAC supplier and I’ve seen a lot of good business and bad business being done behind the seasons. We live in a large metropolitan area where there are multiple HVAC suppliers for consumers to choose from. It gets pretty competitive for us as we compete with the large a/c corporations. We try to offer competitive prices for first time air conditioning and heating installations, but it’s hard for us to keep up with the larger businesses and their investors. More funding keeps the price of the a/c parts inexpensive, and keeps the prices for the services and repairs low as well. Even when it comes to SEO, consumers are more likely to see other HVAC businesses before ours when they search for an air conditioning technician in the area. It feels unfair that the large businesses receive most of the service, and it’s even led me to considering if I want to work in the HVAC business at all. Air conditioning is something that everyone needs in this area, so it just seems like they are taking advantage of kind people. Some people prefer having a closer relationship with their air conditioning repairman, so they prefer our services over the larger corporations. I do love that we have loyal customers who have supported us since day one. Throughout the pandemic, it’s been difficult to stand up against the big boys, but our loyal customers have helped us stick through. We’re really grateful that we were able to keep our doors open as we have many friends who had to close down their small businesses. It was a tough year for many of us.
