I’m not sure that witches need a heating system

It was dark and dusty down there, and she was definitely having some issues with her heating system because there was a big spider’s nest built in the furnace! As I was working, I kept one eye on the stairs to make sure she wasn’t doing anything creepy.

One day a few years ago, I got assigned a furnace maintenance call at this big old house on the outskirts of town. The place always looked a little bit creepy to me, and I didn’t really want to go there by myself. The other HVAC technician who usually accompanies on jobs like that was out sick, though. And so I ended up having to drive our HVAC truck out there all by myself. I’m a pretty big guy, and I can take care of myself, but sometimes I still get the feeling that something isn’t right. This was one of those times! When this creepy old lady opened the door for me and told me that the furnace was down in the cellar, I got chills up and down my spine. When she pointed the way to the furnace room in the basement, all of my instincts told me to run back to the truck. But I went down the stairs and into the furnace room. It was dark and dusty down there, and she was definitely having some issues with her heating system because there was a big spider’s nest built in the furnace! As I was working, I kept one eye on the stairs to make sure she wasn’t doing anything creepy. At one point, I had to crawl back behind the HVAC unit to adjust something and when I crawled back out, she was standing there right in front of me! I just about jumped out of my skin! But she was just asking if I wanted a glass of iced tea. I don’t know how that creepy little old lady snuck all the way down to the furnace room without me hearing her. I’m pretty sure that she’s a witch.
