Lack of air filter changing caused whirring noise

I’ve lived in my home for a few years now.

I keep it relatively clean; I’m not a neat freak or anything but I pick up, dust and vacuum regularly.

One thing that really started bothering me was when my house started making this weird whirring noise (weird whirring noise, try to say that three times fast!). It was weird though and it was coming from my air conditioner. Every time the a/c kicked on, I started hearing that strange noise. I called my HVAC provider and asked that an HVAC technician be sent out right away (I figured there might be something wrong with my ductwork!). When the HVAC technician arrived, he did a quick glance around the house and immediately found the issue. The HVAC technician asked me when the last time I had changed out my air filter- and, as follow up, my furnace filter. I was so embarrassed. I told him I couldn’t remember the last time I had changed out the air filter or furnace filter. He took the air filter down and showed me how filthy it was. The HVAC technician told me that it’s important to get the furnace and air filters changed regularly or it can cause serious issues for the HVAC system overall. I’m very thankful for the HVAC technician, he told me that since this was such a small thing that I needed to take care of that he would not charge the service fee. When I went to the store, I got a year’s supply of furnace and air filters- I didn’t want to be embarrassed like that ever again!
