My friends and I watch the Super Bowl every year.
It is a big tradition that we have done for the past decade.
Unfortunately, I had to miss the Super Bowl this year. It’s the middle of April and my friends are still upset about the events. On the morning of the Super Bowl, I was sitting at home getting ready for the big game. I was about to head out to the store to buy a few cases of beer, when the phone rang. It was my boss. I could have let the phone go to voicemail, because I knew it was my boss before I answered. I didn’t expect him to ask me to work, because I had been talking about the big game for a month. He was out of town with his wife and one of our biggest commercial clients needed help. He called my supervisor, but he didn’t get anyone on the phone. The weekend HVAC technician did not have the knowledge or experience to deal with the commercial HVAC problem. Not only that, but this was our biggest commercial client and one of our largest accounts. I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t want to say no. I agreed to meet the regular HVAC technician at the commercial site. We walked into a huge mess. One of the boilers needed major welding repairs. That was just the tip of the iceberg. I couldn’t leave the guy there on his own and it took all day to fix the problem. I didn’t make it to the party until halfway through the third quarter and my friends will never let me forget it.
