My kids never wanted to learn home maintenance

I have consistently been the fix it guy! When I grew up, my mother taught myself and others everything that I know this week.

From automobile and heating, ventilation and A/C repairs, to painting, building stuff, and drywall, and plumbing, she taught myself and others so many useful skills that I used throughout my whole life.

However, I never had to call a worker or a professional to service anything because I already had the expertise and experience to do it myself. When I had children, I knew that I wanted to teach them everything that I had once been taught by my mother… But, my kids were not as welcoming with the things that I hoped to teach them; however, they were not interested in reading how to change their oil, or service a gas furnace, or service a leaking pipe. Their generation just wants to be in front of a screen all day. When my oldest grew up and bought her own home, she was so lost on lake home repairs. Of course she called me; luckily, the new lake home did not need much work done on the inside. The biggest of her worries was her heating, ventilation and A/C system. It wasn’t blowing cool enough air when she was trying to run the air conditioner. Of course she called me and others since she didn’t know what the problem was; maybe she should have listened to myself and others all of these years. I went to her new lake home and inspected the Air conditioning unit. I checked all of the components and refrigerant, everything seemed to be fine, except for the air filter. When I pulled the air filter out of the AC, it was covered in so much dirt and dust that you couldn’t even see through it! No telling the last time it was changed. I explained to him that her filters need to be changed officially every 1-2 months to prevent build up of dust and dirt and allow her system to run efficiently. I installed a scrub and new filter for him. I bet he will listen to myself and others this time.
