My parents turned the basement into a rec room

When I was 10 years old, my parents hired a construction Builder to turn the basement into a rec room. They added walls and flooring and even carpeting. My parents bought a sofa and a loveseat for the brand new entertainment area. They bought a brand new 19 inch color television, which was incredibly large at the time. The only thing my parents didn’t consider was the fact that the basement might be cold during the winter months. As soon as it got cold, my siblings and I complained about spending time downstairs. It was about 60° and much colder than the rest of the house. My Mom and Dad decided to buy a space heater for the basement. They purchased a space heater that ran on kerosene fuel. The space heater worked very well and it warmed the entire basement in a matter of hours. Unfortunately, the space heater was not exactly the safest machine for the basement. One afternoon it tipped over and the carpet caught on fire. Before my parents put out the fire, it destroyed half of the room. When my parents had the basement remodeled after the fire, they decided it was best to buy a ductless HVAC unit for the space. The construction crew added the HVAC machine to the wall by the entrance to the room. That machine still runs after 10 years and it heats and cools the basement without any problems at all. One day my parents are going to retire and move to the south. Then I plan to buy the house and live in it for the rest of my life.
