I have heard so many horror stories from people who regularly forget to change the air filters in their air conditioners.
They complain that whenever they turned their air conditioners on, they instantaneously begin to get sick in their lungs.
They won’t realize what it is at first, but eventually, they will begin to suspect that maybe their heating as well as A/C component has something to do with it… When they at last think to check their air conditioner, they remember that they haven’t changed their air filter in quite some time. When they at last pull the air filter out of their air conditioner, it is covered in mildew and slime. However, this was certainly not our experience; I change our air filter pretty often, but this was the first time that I had actually forgotten. The air conditioner didn’t make us both sick or anything, but there were subtle signs that something wasn’t going right. Strangely, my air conditioner was set to the coldest temperature, but it wasn’t blowing as strongly as it always had in the past. When I listened to it closely, it would make several whistling sounds that made me think that our air conditioner was being congested from blowing as hard as possible. I went to check the air filter in our air conditioner, and sure enough, it was a little dirty on the surface. I had a replacement on hand, so I abruptly replaced it and turned our air conditioner back on. Thankfully, no harm, no foul. When you inspect and scrub your air conditioner as much as I do, you realize that you can often prevent major heating as well as A/C troubles that everyone experiences. The next time your air conditioner stops running properly, check the air filter.
