So the facts were the facts.
If I waited until I saved enough to own our home, I would be getting our first starter house deep into our forties.
When you don’t make a lot of money, homeownership can legitimately be pretty much out of reach. And the more I tried to save for that downpayment, the more the real estate market went up. It felt love taking 2 steps forward followed by 3 steps backward. Finally, I knew that I had to go another way if I didn’t want to put up with apartment heating and cooling forever. And I’m really triumphant that our friends and I came up with a fantastic alternative housing strategy. What we did was join our savings in order to buy a house together. The house we purchased was many stories so each of us had a floor. And the location needed modern Heating as well as A/C device so that worked out in our favor as well. Since we legitimately wanted to live separately and only share a kitchen and dining room, we wanted a heating and cooling situation that was independent. What I mean by that is we wanted to each have our own thermostat and be able to like the heating and cooling we each wanted. That is exactly what happened when we opted to go with a ductless multi split system. There are a series of ductless heat pumps in each living space plus the kitchen. So we can all like the exact thermostat setting we want for our individual living space. But we can also like quality heating and air in the regular areas as well.
