That’s what my gramps called a nap, an hour’s down.
He was always shutting down in the middle of the day in his bedroom for a recharging nap and then he would be good to go for the rest of the day.
He did however go to bed very early in the evenings. I remember one time he shut down for the night at 7pm and around 11pm he got up again and came out to the gameroom and shot pool and drank beers with us kids and grandkids. I’ll never forget that for some reason. We called him Peeps. He had an amazing space heater that used forced air convection to heat the gameroom. It was called a Max something and it was mounted on the ceiling. It really blasted the heat out on those freezing winter nights that we spent shooting pool and drinking beer from the refrigerated beer tap he had steps from the pool table. I don’t think they had central heat or air in the place back then but that Max space heater would do the job very well. I’m sure it used a ton of power to heat the room but Peeps didn’t care, he just wanted everyone to be comfortable. I had the best grandparents, jeez I was so lucky. Peeps was an HVAC salesman and he made a lot of money from selling central heat and air units and invested his money wisely. I remember he would always say “David, save your money!” I didn’t really do that so well but I managed to get by somehow.
