The local gym advertises discounts for senior citizens.
I was constantly hearing their ads on the radio and getting flyers in the mail. Although I’ve always kept myself in decent shape, I thought I was too old to join a gym. I assumed the gym would be filled with young people and that I’d feel uncomfortable. A friend of mine wanted to take advantage of the discount on membership but didn’t want to go to the gym alone. She convinced me to go check it out with her. We were both surprised and impressed by the modern facility. The gym is huge. There are endless rows of treadmills, stationary bikes, rowing machines, ellipticals and stair-climbers. There are hundreds of machines for weight training. There is a spacious area strictly dedicated to weight training that includes benches, dumbbells, kettlebells, battle ropes, resistance bands and various punching bags. The facility includes a rock wall for climbing, indoor running track and swimming pool. There are even steam rooms, hot tubs and saunas. It even offers tanning and massage. As soon as I saw all of the amenities, I was ready to enroll in a membership. I was also excited by the many styles of group fitness classes they offer. I noticed that the majority of the people working out were older. I felt totally comfortable in the gym environment. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. I’ve made some good friends through the gym. I look forward to my classes and love my workouts. I typically utilize the gym four days per week. It’s been a benefit to my health and fitness.
