Smart Thermostat Makes me Feel Stupid

Do you have difficulty keeping up with technology? As a person who was around with the advent of computers being introduced to the workplace – my first “real job” had me using a typewriter and only got Intranet (not INternet) after I was there for a few years, I know what it is like to deal with ongoing technological advances. There is even one area that I didn’t even know employed technology in their world – HVAC technology. I really haven’t had a need to explore anything about air conditioning in quite a long time. My current HVAC system is over twenty years old. I have regular old central heating and cooling, and when the a/c service guy told me he could no longer get parts for my equipment, I figured I would just get the newer version of what I already have. I learned in a hurry, though, that HVAC technology has come a long way in twenty years. Just like it is no longer possible to keep up to date with all the programs, apps, platforms and systems at work, it is also no longer possible to keep up with all the HVAC technology. There is nothing like a smart thermostat to make one feel stupid. Gone are the days of remembering to switch the thermostat up a few degrees or down a few degrees before leaving the house for the day. Geothermal HVAC systems are now developed and because they are more green, will probably become common as the years go on. Heating and Cooling systems now have sensors to determine if there is anyone in a room, and if not, reduce the air conditioning in that space.
