The other day, I decided to give my son a new chore. I showed him how to change the air filter for our HVAC system. He was wondering why it was so important to change the air filter every month like I told him to. He thought the air filter didn’t seem to be all that special. I told him that even though it didn’t seem like anything major, it was easily the most important part of the HVAC system. I explained that the air filter works to catch all the dust and debris in the air. It protects the HVAC system from filling up with a bunch of dirt, and it allows the HVAC system to work at full capacity. I asked my son if he ever remembered breathing in a bunch of dust before. He said yes, that he has been in a situation like that and it was a very unpleasant experience breathing in stuff like that. I said well, the air filter saves us from having to breathe in a bunch of dust. I told him it’s also good for us to get the ductwork cleaned out every other year so we don’t have to worry about all the dust in the ductwork. I explained to him the importance of the air quality for the health and safety of our home. After the talk we had about changing the air filter, he was able to understand exactly how important this air filter really was for the HVAC system. He thanked me for explaining everything to him, and said he had no idea how important air filters really were.
