Girly weekend is something we look forward to each year. We all leave our husbands in charge of the kids for the three day trip and it is simply amazing. We always go to the same spa retreat because we love it there. As we have been there several times we never bothered to call and verify our reservation. We knew what to expect when we arrived and all we could think of was the relaxing massages and morning mimosas. We checked in and headed to our rooms. When we walked in we found a notice from the front desk stating that our itinerary had changed. We still had our scheduled yoga classes, massages, and meals, but our hot mud therapy session had been cancelled. It also said that the hot tub was closed until further notice and we were all very upset. We always go to the retreat during the winter and all of those warm therapy things are what we look forward to the most. I called the front desk to see why these things were unavailable and they said that the on demand hot water system that warmed both of these areas had broken and they were waiting for replacement parts. The hot tub and the mud pits were both heated with radiant tubes in the walls and they needed the heating unit to make them work. She said that the mud was only around 65 degrees and they couldn’t allow anyone to go in at that temperature for fear of hypothermia setting in. Not that anyone would want to anyway. We couldn’t believe that the best part of our trip was not going to happen. The resort did give us a credit towards next year’s trip but we will make sure to call ahead next time to make sure everything is operational.
