The A/C is still running

We built our home thirty four years ago, and it hardly seems possible that it’s been that long! We raised our children here, and now we are welcoming grandchildren to the same home. We’ve been very fortunate with how long our original furnace has lasted, only needing an HVAC technician once in all that time. He needed to replace a part a few years ago, but admonished us to hang on to our furnace for as long as we could. He indicated that it was such a great model that “they just don’t make them like that anymore”. That was great news! But now we feel that we’re pushing our luck and certainly don’t want to have it quit during one of our long, cold winters. So naturally we’ve been looking at our options on the internet, as well as asking trusted friends about their recommendations. We have come up with a pretty clear picture of the features and the model that we want. When choosing between a variable speed and a fixed speed blower, we selected the variable speed. This type of furnace blower assures that heated and cooled air is distributed through our home at a more consistent temperature and a quieter operation than with the fixed speed blower. We also had an HVAC professional give us a quote for the size of the furnace that is best suited to our home after taking the house size and the window efficiency into account. We opted for a slightly bigger size furnace for maximum efficiency. The same HVAC guy talked to us about purchasing a 10-year warranty for the furnace as well, which seems like a pretty good idea. So today’s the day for us to make a purchase with an HVAC company that has the best reputation, and we feel sure that we’ve done our homework to make a good choice.
