We are well into the season of fall now, and it has gotten quite a bit cooler around here than it normally is. This is always a welcome relief. This is the time of year when we open our windows and flip the switch to off on the a/c thermostat. I am not a person who enjoys using the heater, so unless it is below thirty-five degrees outside, I leave both the heating and cooling off for as long as I possibly can. The other morning, I thought I was going to have to cave and turn on the heater, though. I guess the older I get, the less I can put up with extremes in thermostat readings. So, I woke up early Thanksgiving morning and I was freezing. Even though I was under the blankets, I felt as if I really was going to have to head out to the hall and turn the heater on. I resisted, though, and just put on a sweater and fleece lined leggings. I was feeling the natural a/c, but before long I needed to start cooking the big dinner of the day. I put the turkey in the oven and expected it to serve as a substitute heater. It was still cold, though. Instead of flipping on the heater, I decided to get to work on the side dishes. I needed to stand over those hot burners, and before you know it, I was feeling as if the heater was really on! In fact, I was concerned that i forgot that I did turn it on or something so I headed over to the thermostat just to be sure. But, both the a/c and the heater were still off, and the house was warm. Cooking a huge meal means no need for heater.
