Try to think of it as a necessary evil.

My father was a frugal lady If you talk to our mom, she seems to think of her frugality in terms of miserly.

I think she just doesn’t like to waste money.

She always said that when she retired, she wasn’t going to need to worry about money. Dad agreed with this, even though she still wanted to have nice things. Dad would roll her eyes & tell her that there were more pressing things than just having ‘nice’ things. That was the only time they argued. When she began to do her own Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair, Dad was furious. She told him there was no way she was going to be able to maintain the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C idea as well as the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company would be able to. She thought she was just asking for more concerns with the already seasoned air conditioning component & oil furnace. She argued with her over this & told her she was just saving money. She could do the same thing as any Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional. When the air conditioning component quit blowing chilly air into the house, Dad started with her ‘I told you so’ speech. Dad was the a single to be furious this time. She said it wasn’t anything she had done. When the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional arrived, she found that the fan blades were twisted & put back onto the hub improperly. Dad told him that was what happens when you do your own repair. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech laughed & told dad to think of Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair as a necessary evil. Dad was not amused by Dad or the professional.
