We didn't have time to be picky

My wife and I never stay in a hotel with less than 4 stars.

I used to stay in the cheapest place available, and then my wife and I met.

She insisted that our hotel rooms were more than $100. She didn’t want to stay in a cheap place that was $50 a night. Since my wife was picky about our lodging, I usually let her make the hotel reservations. Last weekend, we didn’t have time to pick through a hundred different online hotel reservations. We had to find a hotel room fast. My wife and I were on our way home from the beach and the truck broke down. We were about 90 minutes away from home when the malfunction occurred. I tried to fix the problem on my own, but I knew that the water pump needed to be replaced. I found a mechanic that could replace the water pump first thing in the morning, but my wife and I had to stay in a hotel overnight. The only place that we could find was extremely old and rundown. It looked like it should be the cover for a scary movie poster. We didn’t have time to be picky, even though my wife didn’t want to stay in that place. The room wasn’t terrible, except for the loud sound coming from the AC. It sputtered and shook all night long. The AC worked well and created really cold air, but it was noisy. I don’t think I slept much at all that night. I was woken abruptly every time the AC unit started running.
