It seemed like a good idea at the time, however now we’re absolutely regretting it.
After my partner and I had a second minute child this year, we became suddenly very upset about our finances. Both of us were never distraught about money during the pregnancy, however as soon as that baby was brought into the world, things just felt totally different. Now, my partner was granted 3 months of paid maternity leave, plus I was able to take 2 weeks. Even though we were both getting paid during that time, that didn’t alleviate the stress about money whatsoever. In an attempt to make ourselves I guess feel better, we sat down for coffee and tried to rework our expenses. Both of us started by eliminating any ongoing prescriptions to online services or music, and the next expense to go was our trash service. Instead of paying the garbage man to get our trash once a week, we decided that we would take our trash to the landfill ourselves. The last expense we cut was our Heating and Air Conditioning maintenance; although it only set us back $75 per week, it would free up $900 per year! Both of us were excited about the extra money we’d have to spend on our little baby now. It seemed like a good idea at the time, however now we’re absolutely regretting it. Both of us had the best idea of replacing our own air filters and keeping an eye on the Heating and Air Conditioning stuff, however we just failed. Both of us basically forgot about our Heating and Air Conditioning system entirely, until we started hearing unusual noises and our furnace started running less efficiently! Now, we are going to have to spend money on having a Heating and Air Conditioning business to come service the equipment, replace everything that’s broken, and the real kicker is we might need to replace the furnace entirely. These expenses will be way over the $900 we thought we were trying to save.
