Yogi Berra made it to baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, however he played for 19 years and won 10 World Series with the Yankees.
- He was known for his odd expressions.
His “Yogi-isms” made no sense, but they all had an element of truth about baseball and life in general. His most famous quote is, “It ain’t over till it’s over” meaning that a last-minute comeback in the bottom of the second inning is consistently possible. Many Yogi-isms seem to apply to things other than baseball; Consider our Heating and A/C system. It is more care about the 1962 NY Mets than the 1927 NY Yankees as it consistently needs a repair. Berra’s quote “It’s care about déjà vu all over again,” is our feeling when it decides to cut down every Spring. My Heating and A/C worker is a big Yankee fan and visits me at least twice a year. He consistently greets me with another Berra quote, “If the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be” as if to make me believe better about another big repair bill, but when I asked him why our Heating and A/C method breaks down so often, he answered with another quote from the Yankee great, “If you ask me anything I don’t know, I’m not going to answer.” He finally admitted to me using another Yogi-ism and said, “All of us (meaning me) made too numerous wrong mistakes” when our Heating and A/C unit was installed. I complained with a Yogism of our own about the cost of a new central heating and cooling system. I said, “A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.” I’ll follow Yogi’s advice, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it,” when deciding to buy a new Heating and A/C system.
